Starting auralite: logistics to design

Where it started.

First Products!

During June 2021, we decided to finally take the first steps to spearhead Auralite, a project that had been on our minds for months. After the heartbreaking loss of our friend, Alan Hu, to suicide, we began to raise awareness of the severity of mental illness within our community. However, as the pandemic began and quarantine became the center stage of our lives, we sensed that similar emotions were provoked across our community. We felt compelled to make a change.

We began by brainstorming, drafting, and formulating Auralite’s mission and objectives. We created a detailed list of what exactly we wanted Auralite to be, and what our goals were. After hours of research and solidifying our objectives, we decided Auralite’s three key missions: Fundraise, Educate, and Support—donating money to the Alan Hu Foundation (a nonprofit organization created by Alan’s parents) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Next, it was time to design Aurallite’s logo. We wanted something that would capture our initiative’s value on wellbeing and a calm state of mind, which is why we decided on incorporating a signature lavender plant. We wanted our logo to be versatile, combining elements of simplicity, elegance, and practicality. After experimenting with different colors, fonts, and other tweaks, we finally decided on our final logo which we love for its simplicity and beautiful Auralite-purple color.

After we determined the logistics, we were ecstatic to design and launch our first collection: The Quartz Point Collection! It featured celestial charms, high-quality quartz point crystals, and beautiful arrangements of pearls, small dainty beads, and crystal beads. It included the emerald quartz necklace, fuchsia quartz necklace, and aqua quartz necklace, each in different colors. We also designed crystal point rings that were made with tarnish-free wire and a quartz point, in several different colors. We listed our first products on Etsy and posted them on Instagram. Our collection received overwhelming support from peers throughout our community, and we received not only our first sale, but our first five within the first day of listing our items! We are so incredibly grateful for the endless support on Auralite, and are excited for future collections and projects to come.
